Weezer’s Summer Road Trip Makes A Pitstop In New York

It's summer time! Which means lots of summer concerts and road trips. But what if we told you, you could get the best of both worlds within one night. Weezer, one of the most influential alternative rock bands, understood the summer assignment. With the Indie Rock Road Trip Summer Tour, Weezer made their way around the country hitting almost every major city in the U.S. Weezer will continue their journey across North America through September, so there's still some time to see them live. If you're not fully convinced to hop onto the Indie Rock Summer Road Trip, let's go through a recap of all the monumental moments you'll miss out on.

Weezer's stage set up was a very immersive experience. It consisted of a dashboard, an inflatable steering wheel, a radio, a window and a rear view mirror. From the perspective of the crowd there were visuals displayed on the big window screen that literally took us around the country and to places that probably don’t exist. There were shooting stars and a bunch of random animations but it reeled in the audience even more. While the crowd was waiting for Weezer to come out, there was a small bit that the radio was fluctuating between a variety of songs and eventually landed on Africa by Toto. Finally the music from the radio stopped and Weezer walked out on stage and all you could hear were the screams from the crowd. They started the set off with My Name is Jonas and contrary to what a radio station would do, they played about 10 songs back to back with no breaks. Around the 7th song, Weezer brought out the beloved Snail Mail to sing along to El Sorcho and I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams. After her appearance, lead singer Rivers Cuomo finally took some time to share some words with the crowd. This moment became a moment of reflection for him and the band. They reminisced about all the music they've come out with since starting the band in 1992. Since then, they have released 672 songs that are all held dear to their fans' hearts. In fact, there were thousands of people that knew every song they played at this show. During the set Rivers yelled out “Ten thousand mofos hanging out with the Weez” in the most appreciative and grateful tone. The band made sure to express their gratitude to their fans because they wouldn't be where they are without them.

Weezer's set was filled with energy and liveliness and we were able to capture it through some photos. Check out our gallery to immerse yourself in the Indie Rock Road Trip and relive the summer vibes with us.
